You are alone in a forest at night with a burning torch and three and a half

minutes until dawn.

**The light is your weapon.** Anything that steps into it dies. Anything

outside it cannot be touched โ€” you can see the wolves out there between the

trees, and you cannot do a thing about them until they come to you.

**The light is also running out.** Your torch burns down every second you

carry it. The only way to feed it is firewood, and firewood only ever lies

out in the dark, away from the safety it would buy you.

So every few seconds you answer the same question: fight now, or go for wood

now? There are always two pieces available and they are never equal โ€” one

close but through the pack, one far but clear. Choose wrong and you are in

the dark with a guttering flame and something behind you.

Runes of power appear as you survive, three at a time in different

directions, and taking one costs you the trip. Most of them cost you light as

well: more damage for a smaller circle, a wider circle for slower swings.

There is no upgrade that simply makes you stronger.

Survive to dawn and you win. Fail and you still earn embers, which buy new

torches โ€” a broad dim one, a narrow fierce one, one that feeds on kills โ€” and

each of them makes the next night a different night.

**Touch:** drag anywhere on screen to move. That is the whole control scheme โ€”

there is no aiming, no buttons, and no menus during play. Your torch attacks

the nearest enemy inside your light automatically.

**Desktop:** drag with the mouse, or use WASD / arrow keys.

Walk into firewood to refuel, into a rune to take its power, and into a bomb

to detonate it โ€” it kills everything nearby and costs you one health.
