Sandbox City is a simulation horror sandbox game where you roam a city taken over by zombies. You can drive cars, fight the enemy off with guns, complete missions for cash, and more, all while you try to avoid hungry zombies. It's a physics-based playground with ragdolls, slow motion, and plenty of tension.

How to Play Sandbox City

The game starts with your character and accessories ready to be customized. This is your home base before getting into the gameplay.

Start with customizing your character or your car using the two Customize buttons, or open Missions, the Shop, or Settings from the top right corner. It's also worth reviewing the full controls list on this screen, which has tabs for Keyboard, Xbox Controller, and PS Controller. The game also supports Xbox and PlayStation controllers.

When you're ready, hit Play to enter the city.

The first time you press Play, the Mission Guy walks you through a quick intro. He welcomes you to Sandbox City, warns you that zombies are on the loose and the citizens are in danger, points out the Shop where you can arm yourself, and tells you to come find him for missions. Follow the on-screen marker (it shows the distance, like "Talk to Mission Guy 114 m") to reach him and start earning.

Exploring the City

Once you're in the world, your HUD shows your health, money, and current weapon. A few things to look out for:

  • Cargo drops: Wooden crates scattered around the city. Break them open for pickups.
  • Cash pickups: Grab money as you explore to build up your balance.
  • Cars: Walk up to a vehicle and press E to hop in. Press E again to exit.
  • The subway: You can use the subway to get around the city (it's also a daily mission).
  • Buy Home: Keep an eye out for the "Buy Home" building. Entering your home is a campaign mission that pays 1,000 cash.

Missions

Press M or tap the Missions icon to see two tabs:

  • Campaign: Story missions like "Talk to Mission Guy" (50 cash) and "Enter home" (1,000 cash).
  • Daily: Rotating challenges that reset every 24 hours, like killing 6 zombies with a gun (100 cash), killing 6 zombies with melee weapons (150 cash), and using the subway once (100 cash). There's also a Daily Reward of 500 cash you can claim each day.

Missions are your main source of income, so check back daily.

The Shop

Press P or tap the Shop icon. It's organized into tabs:

  • Featured: Highlights like Remove Ads, free Daily Ammo, and customization shortcuts.
  • Weapons: Melee weapons like the Baseball Bat and Tennis Racket (50 cash each), plus the Grenade (250), MP-40 (500), and Assault Rifle (500). Most weapons can also be unlocked at a discount by watching an ad.
  • Ammo: A free Daily Ammo pack of 50 rounds every 24 hours, plus Small (100 rounds), Large (300 rounds), and Sniper ammo packs.
  • Boosts: Temporary 2-minute power-ups: Speed Boost, Money Pickup Multiplier (double cash from pickups), and Health Boost (raises max health to 150). Each costs 500 cash or an ad.
  • Money: Cash packs, including a free 250 cash for watching an ad.
  • Customization: Quick access to character and car customization.

Customization

Character: Choose from 28 skins (each with multiple material variants), then dress up with hats and helmets, masks, hairstyles, faces, and backpacks. There are over 100 accessory items, each costing 500 cash, or 100 if you watch an ad.

Car: Pick your vehicle (like the Muscle Car), then change the paint, wheels, and other parts.

Settings

Worth a look before you play. You can adjust language, interface size, graphics quality (or let the game auto-detect the ideal preset), camera sensitivity, music, and sound. Two standouts:

  • Slo-Mo after Collision: Toggles the cinematic slow motion when you crash.
  • Disable Zombies: Turns zombies off entirely if you'd rather just cruise around the city in peace.

Tips

  • Claim your freebies daily. The free Daily Ammo, the Daily Reward, and the daily missions add up fast.
  • Upgrade your weapons. The Baseball Bat and Tennis Racket only cost 50 cash, and the melee daily mission actually pays more than the gun one.

FAQ

How do you get out of the car in Sandbox City?

If you want to get out of the car in Sandbox City, you use the same key used to get in - the E key.

Why would you get out of the car in Sandbox City?

Sandbox City is meant to be explored, so remaining in the car may keep you somewhat safe from zombies but you won’t be able to accumulate rewards if you never leave the car.
