Can You Land? gives you one stick, one runway and the worst weather of your life. No autopilot, no second try: fog down to 600 metres, thunderstorms, driving rain, gusts that shove you off the centreline and windshear that drops the floor out from under you a second after the warning.
Every approach is half a minute of flying: pick up the approach lights far out over the water, line up, drop the gear in time and fly it all the way down. Crash or land, the replay shows you from outside exactly what happened.
Fly the approach on the PAPI lights, hold the centreline and put the wheels down softly on the aiming point 300 metres past the threshold. Every landing is scored out of 100 on sink rate, touchdown point, centreline and bank, and the score is honest: most first-timers crash.
Land well and you earn coins. Spend them in the hangar on a 747, a Concorde, a Gulfstream G650, an A380, an F/A-18 or the SR-71 Blackbird, each with its own cockpit, its own instruments and its own stick or yoke, and each far harder to fly than the A320 you start with. The heavier and the faster ones pay more points, so the leaderboard belongs to the pilots who dare.
Four airports open up as you land. The island where everyone starts, an alpine valley in the snow where reindeer wander onto the strip, a harbour city where you turn late between the towers at the checkerboard, and a carrier where the Navy lends you a Hornet for 240 metres of steel. Once a day the wheel gives you a free spin: coins, a free aircraft or the next airport.
Every day there is a new daily challenge: the same airport, aircraft and weather for everybody, with its own leaderboard. Land several times in a row and your streak raises the coins you earn. Watch out for the flocks of birds crossing the approach: fly through one and both engines are gone.
